The Draft is Approaching Quickly

This is the time of year when I start officially thinking about Steeler Football again. Ok, I really don’t stop thinking about Steeler Football, I just start to get back into Game Mode around draft time. This year our choice is a no-brainer and I hope the Steeler War Room feels the same.

The consensus is we need Offensive Lineman and we do but not as badly as a Cornerback. Yes, we need to stop the experiment of mediocre corners that has been going on since Chad Scott. We need a talented, skilled, athletic, over 6’0′ corner and we need one bad. With most NFL Wide Receivers being over 6’3″ and going up, the 6 foot and under corner needs to go.

Then we need to look at O Lineman and Linebackers. We’ve got a decent replacement for Faneca and Hartwig should be able to do a good job but we need strength players on the O Line. Last year was a fine example of Ben not getting enough protection.

My next pick would be Power Running Back to take pressure off Fast Willie. He is a great runner but needs someone to take the pressure off ‘up the middle running’, Willie ends up trying to break outside on every run anyway. A fresh Willie Parker in the 4th quarter, is one dangerous man. I’m not sold on Mewelde Moore yet.. so we’ll see how that works out.

How about a Safety? It was obvious we were in big trouble when Troy went out last year for a few games and that hurt us bad. We need to get a backup or another starter with talent and speed.

The Steelers always draft smart and discover talent that seems to get overlooked by others so I won’t criticize them for their drafts. Just look back at some of the draft picks over the years that were late first round, 2nd round and higher. Big Ben fell into our laps, Hines Ward, Randle El, Troy, Levon Kirkland and I could go on and on.

Go Steelers!
